Honda Accord vs Ford Fusion
If you’re considering a midsize sedan to drive through Abington, Willow Grove, and Glenside, then you may be looking at popular picks like the Honda Accord and Ford Fusion. While it’s hard to deny that both are great cars, you can only choose one, so which one will it be?
To help you decide, our team at Marty Sussman Honda put together this 2019 Honda Accord vs. Ford Fusion comparison. Give it a read and then contact us to test drive your favorite.
Honda Accord vs Ford Fusion: Fuel Efficiency
- Honda Accord EPA-estimated fuel efficiency: 30 MPG city, 38 MPG highway (for LX, EX, and EX-L 1.5T trims)1
- Ford Fusion EPA-estimated fuel efficiency: 23 MPG city, 34 MPG highway (with SE trim)
Designed for commuters, you can count on both the Honda Accord and Ford Fusion to come through with some pretty efficient powertrains. In fact, both cars make a hybrid version available that can really maximize on fuel economy.
However, if you want a good old-fashioned gas engine, you might get farther between fill-ups in the Honda Accord. The Accord gets an EPA-estimated fuel efficiency of 30 MPG city and 38 MPG highway for LX, EX, and EX-L 1.5T trims.1
Compare this to the Fusion, which maxes out at an EPA-estimated fuel efficiency of 23 MPG city and 34 MPG highway.
Both sedans get their highest efficiency with their 1.5L turbo engines, however, the Accord manages this while also generating more power. It produces 192 horsepower with this engine while the Fusion produces 181 horsepower.
The difference may be due to their transmissions. The Honda Accord has a continuously variable transmission (CVT). This type of transmission is known for its efficiency because it allows for nearly infinite shifts between the upper and lower limits.
Unfortunately, the 6-speeed automatic transmission in the Fusion doesn’t seem to keep up in terms of fuel economy.
Driver-Assist and Convenience Technology: Accord vs Fusion
Whether you’re hitting the road in the Honda Accord or Ford Fusion, you can count on standard driver-assist features to help you get there safely and conveniently. Both sedans come equipped with a standard suite of safety tech, including features like:
- Forward Collision Mitigation
- Lane Keeping
- Blind Spot Monitoring
- Smart Cruise Control
- Automatic High Beams
The Accord offers all these features standard, plus Traffic Sign Recognition. This displays road signs like speed limits on your infotainment display, so that you can stay in-the-know.
In addition to displaying on your infotainment screen in the center stack, this information can be projected onto your front windshield via the available Heads-Up Display.
This shows important data like traffic signs, audio info, and turn-by-turn navigation directly on the lower portion of your windshield, so that you don’t have to take your eyes off the road.
Unfortunately, the Ford Fusion doesn’t offer either of these features, so you may feel less informed than you would in the Honda Accord.
