Honda Pilot Interior

Interior Dimensions

In terms of capacity, both the Honda Pilot and the Ford Explorer offer fairly similar interior dimensions, many of which are only separated by a fraction of an inch. For example, the Pilot has only 0.6 fewer inches of front headroom than the Explorer. On the other hand, The Honda Pilot offers a little extra shoulder room for first- and second-row passengers.

Although the Ford Explorer is longer and wider than the Honda Pilot, those who have a higher need for passenger capacity should go with the Honda Pilot. This SUV comes standard with eight seats, while the Explorer only offers seating for seven passengers.

Honda Pilot vs Ford Explorer: Technology

Family trips are a great way to create lifelong memories, but sometimes the drive can seem endless, especially for the younger passengers. A collection of technology features is available with both the Honda Pilot and the Ford Explorer.

Front passengers will be able to pair their Apple or Android device to Apple CarPlay® or Android Auto™, which is available with the Honda Pilot. These systems allow drivers to pair their smartphone and access their music, podcasts, and compatible apps all through the center display screen of both vehicles.

Second- and third-row passengers will be able to enjoy rear-seat entertainment features on both vehicles, too. Although, when looking at the Honda Pilot vs. Ford Explorer in terms of what these rear-seat entertainment features entail, you’ll notice some differences between these two systems.

The rear entertainment system of the Ford Explorer features display screens mounted to the rear front headrests. With this system, passengers can use wireless headphones to watch movies, and play music.

Similarly, the Advanced Rear Entertainment System of the Honda Pilot allows rear passengers to use wireless headphones to watch movies, connect their laptop or smartphone for mirroring, and play some of the built-in games. At first glance these systems may seem similar, but upon closer investigation you’ll see that CabinTalk® is also available with this feature, but not with the Ford Explorer.

With CabinTalk®, the front passengers can easily communicate with those seated in the rear with a press of a button. This enables a microphone for you to speak to the passengers through their wireless headphones or through the speaker system of the Pilot. This feature is great for giving passengers updates on the trip or getting their attention quickly.

Honda Pilot Safety

Standard Safety Features

Keeping your family safe each time you go for a ride is always the driving force behind a series of standard safety features offered on both SUVs. When looking at the Pilot vs. Explorer in terms of safety, you’ll find these features standard on both vehicles:

  • Lane keeping features
  • Auto high beams
  • Emergency braking systems
  • And more

One standard safety feature of the Honda Pilot that you won’t find offered with the Ford Explorer is the Road Departure Mitigation System (RDM). This feature uses a front-mounted camera to monitor your position within the lane, like how the Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS) of the Honda Pilot works.

Should the system detect that you’re crossing over lanes without signaling, this system attempts to prevent you from fully departing the roadway. This is done by applying gentle steering and braking assistance until you’re repositioned in your lane.
